AUBURN, Ala. ----
Samford cross country continued its season Friday at the Auburn Invitational.  Newcomers and veterans both shined as the Bulldog squad showed its depth and talent.  The women's team placed second in the 4k while the men's team placed fourth in the 6k.

Freshman and Birmingham native Rachel Roberts made her Samford debut, cruising to a second-place finish in 14:30.19.  Holly Benson was the next Bulldog to cross, timing in at 15:07.32.  Frances Bernard was close behind (17th, 15:16.41) as was Rachel Wooten (22nd, 15:33.30) and Marie Demedicis (31st, 15:56.21).  Their five finishes gave Samford a team total of 83 points, just four points ahead of third-place Southern Mississippi.  Rounding out the rest of Samford's competitors were Margaret Grogan (40th, 16:21.14), Anna Laura Irvine (42nd, 16:28.34) and Chelsea Treadway (43rd, 16:30.40).

For the second-straight week, newcomers Luke Weishaar and Brandon Hazouri earned top ten finishes as they placed back-to-back in ninth (19:39.19) and tenth (19:44.00), respectively.  Fellow freshmen Adam Jones (14th, 20:06.76) and Steven Crain (24th, 20:50.96) were the next Bulldogs across, followed shortly after by James Graham (27th, 21:06.41), Layton Dorsett (28th, 21:13.58) and Nicholas Cork (38th, 22:08.09).
