Life of a Runner: Cameron Deloach

Hello, my name is Cameron Deloach.  I’m an excited junior attending Thompson High School.  I have been going to Thompson since the eighth grade and running for the Warriors ever since then! Currently my team is being guided by our outstanding coach, Paul Anderton, who has made such a positive impact on my team over the past several years.  I hope that you all are as excited for the 2012 cross country season as I am.  I look forward to seeing what the hard work this summer has to offer.

Speaking of summer, mine was fantastic.  I was blessed with the opportunity to travel, run everyday this summer and to enjoy my time off from school in general. Even though I missed the trip to the Mountain Falls Running Camp due to vacation, I was able to take part in our weekly runs three times a week and attend our very own team camp at Oak Mountain State Park. I think our team camp was one of my favorite running experiences of the summer.  I saw through the effort everyone put in that our team is beginning to grow closer.  The team seems to be more invested in becoming dedicated athletes this year.  I really enjoyed the last day the most, as it was the most challenging yet scenic of the runs.  My favorite part was running the Blood Rock trail, which was about half a mile uphill.  It actually did not feel as bad as it sounds as there were lots of twists and turns going up that made the trail seem less strenuous.

My goals for the season are ones that I’ve spent much time this preseason thinking of. This year I would like to practice and race injury free for the first time in my high school career. I would also like to help get Thompson’s cross country team to state this year.  I hope that all of you will continue with me this year on my journey.  I would like to thank Alabama Runners and God for allowing me to have this experience to blog about this season with all of you!
