Chiles made the long journey from Tallahassee to the Jesse Owens Classic in Oakville, Alabama. According to Google Maps, that's about smack dab in the middle of nowhere.  It's in the northern part of the state between Decatur and Moulton.

The Chiles' girls team made light work of some top teams from Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.  Running in the "Gold Elite" division they finished with 85 points (1-4-5-37-39-[69]-[211]) with an astounding 18:37 team average. The nearest team competitor was Walton, Georgia... they were 107 points back though with 192 and a 19:31 average.

That team average number was in no small way helped out by Lily William's TKO of the old course record with a 17:29 performance that is the best by a Floridian this year. In second place was Alabama's top female, Carmen Carlos, who if you remember won the mile at Golden South a couple of years ago. Carlos, who set the old course record just last year with a 17:36, ran an impressive 17:32.

Carly Thomas and Rachel Givens gave Chiles a really impressive top three in the top five with times of 18:02 and 18:18, respectively. Four and five were Sara Lane and Jessica Gilliard, both at 19:38.

The Chiles boys team was lead by Christian Buzzard, who ran a 16:11 for 23rd place. Jacob Krell (16:47), Conrad Crawford (16:56), and Sean Turner (16:58) also ran under 17 minutes and Trevor Knauf rounded out the scoring with a 17:20 for 113th.  The boys finished in 8th place with 320 points and a 16:51 average out of 42 schools.
