Line up the contenders in Class 3A this fall and, like the boys, most of them spent last November racing somebody else.
Plainview ran the Class 4A state meet and finished fourth. LAMP (Loveless) was eighth in that race, Munford 13th. White Plains, Oneonta, DAR, Haleyville, Handley and Central-Florence all sent qualifiers to 4A.
Colbert Heights ran the 3A meet and was fourth. Winfield City was sixth, Wicksburg seventh, Glencoe ninth, Holly Pond 11th. They're all in the same race now. Eight of the fourteen teams that scored at last year's 3A state meet aren't in the class anymore. Champion Montgomery Academy, runner-up St. Luke's Episcopal and third-place Saint James all three moved to Single A. Lee-Scott, Glenwood and Madison Academy went to Double AA; J.B. Pennington and Collinsville dropped to 1A-2A.
What's left is a class where most teams return all their scorers.
The graduation math
Nine of these programs scored at a state meet last fall. Counting only their scoring fives:
| Scorers lost | Teams |
|---|---|
| 0 | Colbert Heights, Winfield City, Glencoe, Holly Pond, LAMP (Loveless), Munford |
| 1 | Plainview, Wicksburg |
