Meet director and head coach of Huntsville High Cross Country, Blake Borden, wants to make sure you all know that this year's version of their annual meet, and tentatively all offerings moving forward, The Southern Showcase will be shifting to a traditional one-day format. Below are the specifics he wants to share with you all:
"I am excited to share that our annual meet, The Southern Showcase, will be shifting to one day, Saturday only, race this Fall! We will be moving our 7-9th grade "junior high" 2 mile and the unlimited 5k races both to Saturday at the end of the race schedule. On top of that, each of the other 5K's will allow coaches the flexibility of choosing between 5 and 10 entries per division, including the championship divisions.
I am very motivated to get as many Alabama teams at this year's offering as possible as I have noticed a dip in attendance for our in-state teams the last few years. I discussed and researched what might be causing that and I am making these adjustments specifically for you. On the other hand, we have seen an increasingly stronger out of state field during the same time frame. WIth your support, I really hope to be able to put Alabama's best up against the rest of the southeast and even several teams from outside our region once again. The date will be 9/19/26 this year, which is a week after Chickasaw and two weeks out from Gatorade (formerly Jesse Owens) so as to not conflict with the meets at the state course.
