JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.—The Alabama State University track and field teams continued to have a successful indoor season when they brought home four first-place finishes at the Niswonger Invitation hosted by East Tennessee State University.
Franklin won the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.22 while
Delorean Peek continues to shine in the 800 meter run which he won with a time of 1:51.05.
The ASU “A” relay team finished first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:14.76.
There were several other top performances in the weekend's action. Latric Lee had a 60 meter run of 7.82 to finish ninth and
Erynne Byrd's 9.19 dash in the 60 meter hurdles finished fourth. Teammate Fola Richards finished fifth in the 50 meter hurdles Invite with a time of 9.12.
The Lady Hornets “A” relay team finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:52.47, and then turned around and finished ninth in the Distance Medley with a time of 12:56.77.
Tyrisha Chambers finished seventh in the high jump at 1.65m (5-05.00) and
Asha Tavernier also finished seventh in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.62m (18-05.25).
Shanice Mells had solid performances in the shot put and weight throw. She finished fifth in the throw with a 16.82m (55-02.25) heave and had a throw of 12.46m (40-10.50) to finish seventh.
On the men's side, Franklin finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.82 and
Vincent Butler finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.24.
ASU's track and field teams will have one more regular season meet before the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, when they travel to Clemson, S.C., to participate in the Tiger Tune ups on Feb. 19.
