Track and Field Win Seven Events at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field team had a successful first outdoor meet by winning seven first-place medals and numerous other top five finishes.

On the men's side, Delorean Peek once again proved to be one of the top 800 meter runners in the region with his win in 1:54.90. The 4x400 meter relay team of Peek, Vincent Butler, Ronald Jordan and Sylvester Byrd won the relay in a time of 3:14.14.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Latrice Lee, Tokeyah Jones, Jamie Brooks and Tia Rolle won first with a time of 46.68.

Jones was not finished with first place finishes as she won the 100 meter dash in 12.31, and Lee won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.48.

Tanisha Boulware brought home two first place finishes. She won the high jump with a leap of 1.62m (5-03.75), and she won the pole vault with a vault of 3.35m (10-11.75).

Cody Pace finished third in the steeplechase (12:20.05) and Christopher Duncan finished second in the 1500m run (4:11.65).

ASU almost ruled the 110m dash as Ronald Jordan finished second, followed by Jeffery Adams in third and Quantavious Lockhart in fourth.

The 4x100m relay team of Vincent Butler, Jonathan Franklin, Ronald Jordan and Sylvester Byrd finished third (41.82). Butler then turned around and finished fourth in the 400m dash (48.10) and second in the 200m dash (22.06) while Jordan finished third in the 400m hurdles (54.83).

Isiah Golson finished tied for fourth in the high jump (1.93m) and Byron Kearney was second in the triple jump (14.00m).

The women had Paris Thompson finish third in the 100m hurdles followed by Tyrisha Chambers finishing third and Fola Richardson finishing fifth.

Rolle finished second (12.45) in the 100m dash and Kesia Derilus finished second in the 800m run (2:18.97) with teammates Lutrisha Altidor in third (2:20.46) and Breana Kelly in fourth (2:21.61).

Chambers finished second in the 400m hurdles (1:04.99) and Paris Thompson was third (1:06.48). Derilus was third in the 5000m run (19:21.73) and Jahneel Tyrell finished tied for fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 10-27m (33-06.50).

Melissa Romelus had a strong day in field events with a fourth place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 37.70m (123-08); and a third place finish in the javelin throw at 34.96m (114-08) and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.02m (39-05.25).

Shanice Mells finished third in the shot put at 12.02m (39-05.25) and a fifth place finish in the javelin throw at 33.77m (110-09).
