The 6A division wrapped up Saturday at Gulf Shores Municipal Track with a tight girls finish and a Homewood boys team title that ran on relay strength and field event depth.
Team Standings
Girls - State Champion (Blue Map): Mountain Brook (72.5). Runner-Up (Red Map): Pelham (69).
- Mountain Brook - 72.5
- Pelham - 69
- Northridge - 58
- Briarwood Christian - 55.5
- Homewood - 54
A 3.5-point margin separated the Blue Map and Red Map. Mountain Brook claimed the state championship largely on the strength of distance depth and a winning 4x800 relay (9:40.62), with strong placements behind senior Pelham runner Emily Wester, who took the headline performance of the meet by sweeping the 800, 1600, and 3200. Wester's 30-point individual haul nearly pushed Pelham over the top for the Blue Map. Briarwood Christian's win in the 4x400 relay (4:03.23) and Northridge senior Annabelle Bean's javelin title kept the top five tightly bunched.
Boys - State Champion (Blue Map): Homewood (76.5). Runner-Up (Red Map): Northridge (68).
- Homewood - 76.5
- Northridge - 68
- Buckhorn - 48
- Mountain Brook - 45
- McAdory - 40
The 6A boys race lived up to its preseason billing as one of the closest team race of any classification. Homewood claimed the Blue Map behind senior Tomon Felton's long jump win (23-09.25), Davis Griffin's javelin title (178-04), and a meet-best 4x800 relay (7:49.85). Northridge senior Shawn Stephenson swept the 1600 and 3200, but couldn't generate enough additional points to close the gap, and the Jaguars settled for the Red Map. Buckhorn senior Marcus Lee doubled in the high jump (6-10.00) and triple jump (48-06.00), giving the Bucks a third-place finish.
