AHSAA Class 3A State Outdoor Championship Preview

The 3A division of the AHSAA 123A Outdoor Championship runs May 1-2 at Cullman HS Stadium. Below is a preview of the top entries by event, along with a projected team score based on seed marks and times.

TR Miller is the projected boys champion by a wide margin. Senior Cameron Clifton is seeded first in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Marquise English leads the triple jump, Alex Aldridge leads the pole vault, and Carl Stanton Jr. leads the shot put. The Tigers also seed first in the 110-hurdle prelims and stack the top of the 200 and triple jump fields with multiple entries. Whitesburg Christian, Westminster, and Alabama Cyber Tech are bunched closely behind in a competition for the runner-up spot.

Whitesburg Christian projects to win the girls 3A title comfortably with its deep roster and well rounded team scoring from jumps and throws. Mary Taylor is the top 800 seed, the Warriors hold five of the top eight 1600 and 3200 seeds, and they lead the seeds in the 4x800 relay. The pole vault is also a Whitesburg event - Kinsey Sackett (8-06), Mattie Sackett (8-00), and Felicity Poe (7-06) hold three of the top four spots. Lee-Scott Academy is the closest pursuer behind eighth-grader Ann Tate Persons(top 100/300 hurdles seed) and senior Janie Bell Robertson.

Cottage Hill's Jessie Gibbs (12.62) holds the top seed by two hundredths over Dadeville's Ariah Lockhart (12.64), TR Miller's Kayla Luladekis (12.65), and Whitesburg Christian's Ava Hiser (12.66) - all within four hundredths. Weaver's Jaylee Carter (12.79), Thomasville's Imani Brothers (12.81), Lee-Scott's Lizzy Gregory (12.83), and Dallas County's Jaidyn Dixon (12.96) complete the top eight seeds.

Boys 100 Meter Dash

Lauderdale County's Richard Green (10.96) is the only seed under 11 seconds. Whitesburg Christian's Hunter Kodalen (11.10), Hillcrest's Naszir Gill (11.17), Hale County's Ziaylon Scott (11.19), Alabama Cyber Tech's Jalen Venter (11.24), Beulah's Tristen Robinson (11.28), Childersburg's Caden Chambliss (11.34), and Lee-Scott's Neal Reams (11.39) follow.

Girls 200 Meter Dash

Lee-Scott's Lizzy Gregory (26.00) leads. Kayla Luladekis (TR Miller, 26.23), Ariah Lockhart (Dadeville, 26.24), Jessie Gibbs (Cottage Hill, 26.26), Ava Hiser (Whitesburg, 26.41), Jaylee Carter (Weaver, 26.60), Imani Brothers(Thomasville, 26.72), and Haley Clark (Alabama Cyber Tech, 26.85) round out the top eight.

Boys 200 Meter Dash

Hunter Kodalen (Whitesburg, 22.23) leads. Lauderdale County's Richard Green (22.50) and Hale County's Ziaylon Scott (22.50) are tied for second. TR Miller's James Kiser (22.79), Alabama Cyber Tech's Ashton Rajbhandari(22.80), Sheffield's Drayden McElroy (22.87), Thorsby's Ethan Rhea (23.08), and B B Comer's Cameron Gaddis(23.11) follow.

Girls 400 Meter Dash

TR Miller's Kayla Luladekis (59.72) holds the only sub-1:00 seed. B B Comer's Cristian Jemison (50.43) leads. Walter Wellborn's Karson Holley (51.32), Whitesburg's Hunter Kodalen (51.37), Alabama Cyber Tech's Ashton Rajbhandari (51.43), Randolph County's Mo Winston (51.44), TR Miller's Cameron Clifton (51.49), Alabama Christian's Noah Shack (51.65), and Dadeville's Damarion Stowes(51.82) round out the eight.

Girls 800 Meter Run

Whitesburg Christian's Mary Taylor (2:26.07) and Westminster's Pippa Hussar (2:26.30) are within a quarter-second at the top. Westminster's Weaver Caldwell (1:58.99) holds the only seed under 2:00. Brady Johnson (Vinemont, 9:44.38) holds the top seed. Westminster's Weaver Caldwell (9:47.76), Quinn McCurry(10:00.08), Aiden McEachran (10:00.25), and Wicksburg's Landon Davenport (10:12.05) follow. Lee-Scott's Ann Tate Persons (16.40) holds the top seed by nearly three-quarters of a second. Dadeville (50.14) holds the top seed by nearly half a second. Lee-Scott Academy (50.62), Sheffield (51.19), Weaver(51.76), TR Miller (51.87), Hillcrest (52.25), Flomaton (52.36), and Westminster (53.12) follow.

Boys 4x100 Meter Relay

Hillcrest (43.59) and TR Miller (43.66) lead. Alabama Cyber Tech (44.02), Westbrook Christian (44.07), Greensboro (44.11), Walter Wellborn (44.59), B B Comer (44.67), and Piedmont (44.77) round out the top eight seeds.

Girls 4x400 Meter Relay

Westminster (4:17.22) holds the top seed by nine seconds. Winfield City (4:26.22), TR Miller (4:27.63), Whitesburg Christian (4:27.82), Hale County (4:32.81), Alabama Cyber Tech (4:36.74), Saks (4:36.78), and Lee-Scott Academy (4:37.57) make up the rest.

Boys 4x400 Meter Relay

Dadeville (3:34.46) leads, ahead of Saks (3:36.75), Midfield (3:37.07), Westminster (3:37.46), Cottage Hill(3:37.74), TR Miller (3:38.84), Fyffe (3:40.51), and Alabama Cyber Tech (3:40.52).

Girls 4x800 Meter Relay

Westminster (10:41.78) and Saint James (10:47.63) lead. Whitesburg Christian (10:57.88), Lee-Scott (11:03.88), Winfield City (11:12.70), Piedmont (11:47.92), Providence Christian (11:50.92), and JB Pennington (11:51.59) follow.

Boys 4x800 Meter Relay

Alabama Cyber Tech (8:41.58) holds the top seed. Vinemont (8:47.80), Westminster (8:55.26), Whitesburg Christian (8:59.47), JB Pennington (9:07.46), Excel (9:08.11), Westbrook Christian (9:11.68), and Providence Christian (9:13.56) round out the top eight.

Weaver's Jaylee Carter (5-02.00) holds the top seed. Four are tied at 5-00 - Reagan Polzin (Whitesburg Christian), Amelia Lee (TR Miller), Caroline Miller (Vinemont), and Ysabella Heiderich (Whitesburg Christian). Sadie Wilkes(Providence Christian, 4-10) is alone in sixth, with Arielle Russell (Dadeville, 4-08) and Ali Anderson (Weaver, 4-08) tied at seventh.

Boys High Jump

Winfield City's Slate Gilbert (6-07.00) leads, ahead of Greensboro's Adrian Williams (6-06.00) and Beulah's JeDareon Foreman (6-04.00). Trae Locke (Whitesburg Christian, 6-02.00) is fourth. Three are tied at 6-00 - Marquise English (TR Miller), Miguel Garcia (Holly Pond), and a group at 5-10 led by Caden Moody (Holly Pond) and Ethan Williams (Northside Methodist).

Girls Pole Vault

Only five entered. Whitesburg Christian holds three of the top four - Kinsey Sackett (8-06), Mattie Sackett (8-00), and Felicity Poe (7-06). Northside Methodist's Sydney Warren (7-06) and Ohatchee's Lily Duran (7-00) round out the field.

Boys Pole Vault

TR Miller's Alex Aldridge (14-00.00) leads. Vinemont's Gavin Parr (13-03.00), Winfield City's Dylan Benton (13-00.00), Piedmont's Om Patel (11-06.00), and three at 11-00 - Whitesburg's Wyatt King, Dadeville's Philip Baker, and TR Miller's Joseph Milligan. Makenzie Sansing (JB Pennington, 114-10) holds the top seed. Layni Pope (Whitesburg, 111-03), Jayci Griffin(Winfield City, 110-00), Olivia Montgomery (Westminster, 105-05), Armani Thomas (Lauderdale County, 105-03), Addison Holcomb (Vinemont, 104-06), Bailey James (Lauderdale County, 103-04), and Cira Thrift (Holly Pond, 101-09) round out the eight.

Boys Javelin

Westbrook Christian's Brodey Wood (183-09) is more than 23 feet ahead of the next seed. TR Miller's Aidan Haecker(160-02), Holly Pond's Asher Thrift (159-02), B B Comer's Tylan Buckhannan (157-03), TR Miller's Alex Aldridge(152-03), Rogers' Cort Crunk (148-03), Winfield City's Ian Kennedy (145-10), and Westbrook Christian's Cooper Lancaster (145-00) round out the top eight.

The 3A field events open Friday morning at 8:00 AM with the girls long jump and boys discus. Track action begins at 10:40 AM with the 4x100 prelims. Saturday's schedule opens with the 3200 finals at 9:30 AM and concludes with the boys 4x400 at 3:50 PM.
