ASU Track and Field Travels to Tennessee State

MONTGOMERY—The Alabama State University track and field team has had some impressive results so far during the indoor season. The men's and women's teams have combined to win over 10 individual races and team relays with several more top-five and top-10 finishes.

The teams will look to continue that trend this weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to participate in the TSU Invite hosted by Tennessee State University. It is the fourth indoor meet for ASU this season.

“I am looking for our men and women to show some improvement as we continue to work on getting better and better,” head coach Ritchie Beene said. “I expect us to compete hard in each event in both the track and field events.”

The event will take place on the famed Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track which is housed in the Gentry Center on TSU's campus.

“We are very excited about competing against all of the strong competition that always attends the events at TSU,” Beene said. “TSU has one of the more historical programs in the nation that included several Olympians such as Wilma Rudolph and legendary coach, Ed Temple.”
The Hornets will go into the meet with several performers battling injuries, but that is not an excuse according to coach Beene.

“We do have several team members trying to perform through some injuries,” Beene said. “But I told them following our workout we are not going to use those as an excuse, so I will still expect a lot from them.”
