CARBONDALE, Ill.—The Alabama State University men's and women's track teams won four events over the weekend at the Saluki Open hosted by Southern Illinois University.
For the second consecutive week
Lutrisha Altidor turned in a winning time in the women's 800 meter run. She finished her first place time in 2:17.44.
On the men's side
Jonathan Franklin finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.31 while
Delorean Peek picked up a win in the 800 meter run (1:57.34). The ASU”A” team won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:16.16. The relay team is made up of Franklin, Peek,
Vincent Butler and
Sylvester Byrd.
There were other notable performances by the Hornets over the weekend. ASU had three women finish among the top eight in the 60 meter dash.
Latrice Lee was fifth (7.83),
Tokeyah Jones finished sixth (7.86) and
Jamie Brooks was eighth (7.90).
The women pulled the same feat in the 200 meter dash with Lee finished third (25.68), Jones was fifth (25.82) and
Asha Tavernier was eighth (26.01).
Breana Kelly finished second just behind Altidor in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.92. Fola Richardson finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.30) and the women's “A” 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:54.47. The team consisted of Altidor, Quyanna Browne, Lee and Tavernier.
In the field events,
Tyrisha Chambers finished tied for second in the high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters (5-05.00) and Tavernier was sixth with a jump of 1.60 meters (5-03.00).
Tanisha Boulware finished tied for ninth in the pole vault with a vault of 2.99 meters (9-09.75) and
Shanice Mells finished seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 16.29 meters (53-05.50).
On the men's side,
Shawn Lockhart finished second in the 60 meter dash (6.91) and Byrd was tied for seventh (7.04). The men had three teammates among the top seven finishers in the 200 meter dash. Butler was third (22.21), Lockhart was fifth (22.54) and Byrd was seventh (22.63).
Butler also had a strong third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.86 while
Christopher Duncan (1:58.19) and
Charles Flewellen (1:58.46) finished second and fourth in the 800 meter run.
ASU also had two other 4x400 meter relay teams with top ten finishes. The ASU “B” team finished sixth (3:32.26) and the ASU “C” team finished ninth (3:41.05).
In the men's field events, Isaiah Golson finished fifth in the high jump with a jump of 1.90 meters (6-05.75).
