Georgia State Rallies Past JSU, 59-47

ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville State squandered an 11-point second-half lead as Georgia State rallied for a 59-47 win Thursday at the Georgia State Sports Arena in Atlanta, Ga.

JSU's losing skid moves to seven straight games as it falls to 2-7 on the season. The Panthers of GSU moved to 4-4 on the season. After back-to-back road setbacks, the Gamecocks return to Pete Matthews Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 19 as they host Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri.

After taking a 25-19 lead into the halftime break, the Gamecocks pushed their six-point advantage out to 36-25 after a pair of JaDechia Hill free throws with 13:50 left in the contest. The Panthers of GSU, who out-scored Jax State 40-22 in the second half, put together an 11-0 scoring run to even the game at 36-all at the 8:44 mark of the half. JSU held its last lead of the affair at 41-40 with 6:03 left in the game before GSU took its first lead of the game on a Chan Harris lay up with 4:43 remaining in the game. The Panthers owned the last four minutes of the game as they pushed that lead out to as the final outcome of 12 points on two occasions. The Gamecocks scored just six points in the final 4:03. GSU caught fire in the second half, shooting 54 percent from the field and forcing JSU into 22 of its 27 turnovers in the second half.

Junior Brittany Wiley led the Jax State first half charge, scoring 13 of her 16 points in the first 20 minutes. Wiley drilled three treys in the contest, including her only basket of the final half. Playing in her home state, Wiley also led JSU on the boards with eight. The Gamecocks out-rebounded the Panthers 46-38. Danielle Beneby reached double figures with 11 points in the setback.

GSU's Kendra Long turned in a game-high 16 points along with four steals. Chan Harris, who was hampered with fouls in the opening half, turned in ten of her 12 points in the final period. Tiffany Anderson added ten points in the win.


Tip for the JSU-SEMO contest is set for 2 p.m. at Pete Matthews Coliseum. Jax State will close out the pre-holiday potion of the schedule on Tuesday against Eastern Illinois.
