Women's Hoops Takes On Georgia State In Atlanta

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team returns to the floor on Thursday against Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. CST at the GSU Sports Arena.

JSU (2-6) looks to snap a six-game losing streak since opening the season with back-to-back wins over Stillman and Troy. The Gamecocks are coming off an 87-39 setback to nationally-ranked Florida State last Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla. The Panthers of GSU enter the contest at 3-4 on the season after dropping their last outing to Western Carolina, 51-37, last Saturday.

Jax State and GSU will renew a series that dates back to the 1984-85 season and will meet for the 25th time on the hardwood. The Panthers own a 19-5 advantage over its former Trans America Athletic Conference/Atlantic Sun counterpart, including four straight wins dating back to the 2003 season. In the last match up between the two schools in 2007, GSU topped JSU 63-51.

Statistically, these two teams mirror each other as JSU averages 57. 1 points per game, while the Panthers post 54.7 points on the scoreboard per contest. Both squads currently pull down 39 rebounds a game. JSU junior Brittany Wiley leads the Gamecock offense with 10.9 scoring mark. Senior Danielle Beneby leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 6.1 per game. Sophomore Amanda McCarthy sparked Jax State against FSU with 12 points off the bench. The Boston, Mass.-guard drained four three-pointers in the affair. GSU's duo of Angelique Burtts and Chan Harris pace the Blue and White in scoring. Burtts tallies 15.3 points per game, while Harris averages a double-double with 14 points per game and 10.7 rebounds.

Following JSU's trip to Atlanta, it returns home to close out the pre-holiday schedule with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference games at Pete Matthews Coliseum. Jax State will host Southeast Missouri on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. Eastern Illinois will be the opposition on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
