No. 16 Florida State Cruises Past JSU 87-39

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – 16th-ranked Florida State used a 49-point first half to cruise past Jacksonville State, 87-39, on Sunday in women's college basketball action at the Tucker Civic Center.

JSU suffered its sixth-straight loss and falls to 2-6 on the season. The nationally-ranked Seminoles improved to 8-1 on the season.

FSU put together an 18-6 run over the final 11:36 of the first half to take a commanding 49-22 lead at halftime. The Garnett and Gold scorched the nets with a 52 percent mark thanks to a pair double figure FSU scorers in double digits by the halftime break. Natasha Howard scored 11 of her game high17 points in the first 20 minutes. Chasity Clayton came off the bench to chip in ten points in the half. Clayton posted 16 in the contest.

The Seminoles picked up right where they left off in the second half as they extended the 27-point intermission lead out 40 points with 7:18 left in the contest. FSU took its largest lead of the affair at 50 points at 87-37 with just over two minutes on the clock on a Leonor Rodriquez three pointer. FSU matched a season-high with ten three pointers in the contest and finished the game shooting 53 percent from the field.

FSU placed three others in double figures in the scoring column paced by Cierra Bravard's 13 points. Courtney Ward and Rodriquez registered 11 points each in the contest. Ward turned all 11 points in the second half.

Jax State was led in scoring by sophomore guard Amanda McCarthy. The transfer from the University of New Orleans had her most productive outing in the Gamecock uniform as she posted 12 points on four made treys off the bench. Brittany Manning and Destiny Lane posted six points each. Senior Danielle Beneby went scoreless in the affair, but led JSU in rebounding with eight boards. FSU, who entered the game sixth in the NCAA in rebounding margin, posted 46 boards to JSU's 27.

The Gamecocks remain on the road on Thursday, travelling to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. and will be aired on 91.9 FM with Mike Parris describing the action.
