Jax State Falls To Bethune-Cookman, 57-46

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville State's women's basketball team dropped its third-straight game as it fell to Bethune-Cookman University, 57-46, on Saturday afternoon on the B-CU campus.

JSU falls to 2-3 on the season and will continue its tour of the state of Florida on Monday against Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. CST. The Wildcats of BC-U improved to 2-2 on the season.

For the second consecutive game, JSU fell behind in the second half and could not recover. The Gamecocks evened the game at 27-27 with three minutes deep in the final half, but the Wildcats put together a 13-3 scoring run to push their lead out to double digits at 40-30 with 12:17 left in the contest. After briefly trimming the lead down to seven points at 43-36 on a Brittany Lane three-pointer at the 8:02 mark, the Maroon and Gold stretch the deficit back out to as many as 15 points on two occasions.

BC-U took advantage of 14 JSU second half turnovers, which turned into 15 points on the other end. The Wildcats also had the edge at the free throw line as they connected on 14-of-20 in the final 20 minutes alone. They finished the contest 16-of-24 after just four visits to the charity stripe in the first half.

In the opening half, JSU built its largest lead of seven on multiple occasions before BC-U fought its way back to take a two-point lead at halftime, 25-23. Junior Brittany Wiley scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the first half. Wiley pulled down seven rebounds in her 38 minutes of playing time.

Sophomore Danielle Vaughn and senior Danielle Beneby finished in double figures in the scoring column with ten points each. Beneby, playing in her home state, also had three steals and five rebounds. Vaughn was one rebound shy of a double-double with her nine boards in the setback.

BC-U placed five players in double figures, led by D.J Fowler's game-high 15 points. Fowler registered six of her 15 points at the free throw line. Sarah Bolden posted 12 points followed by Amanda Hairston's 11 points. BC-U's leading scorer Demetria Frank was held to ten points.
