Gamecocks Host Wofford in NCAA FCS Playoffs on Dec. 4

FOOTBALL GAME DAY CENTRAL |  NCAA BRACKET  |   TICKET INFORMATION

Jacksonville State (9-2) will host its first playoff game in almost 20 years on December 4 as the Gamecocks will face Wofford (9-2) at Burgess-Snow Field at 11 a.m.

The Gamecocks, ranked No. 8 in this week's Sports Network/Fathead.com poll, received an at-large bid, while Wofford also receive an at-large bid. The Terriers were the co-Champions of the Southern Conference and ranked No. 7 in this week's Sports Network/Fathead.com poll. Both teams received first round byes in the newly expanded NCAA Division I Football Championship.

The two teams have faced each other twice, with the Gamecocks winning both meetings. JSU claimed a 21-7 road win in 1990, and then beat the Terriers 51-7 in Jacksonville during the 1991 season.

Jacksonville State, which is making its third Division I playoff appearance, is the first OVC team to host a FCS Playoff game since the 2006 season (Eastern Illinois). It is just the second at-large bid – in any sport – for Jacksonville State since moving to Division I in 1993, joining the 2009 Gamecock softball team.

In the 32 years of the FCS playoffs (which started in 1979), the OVC has now placed two teams in the playoffs 17 total times, and for the first time since back-to-back years in 2006 and 2007. OVC regular-season champion Southeast Missouri State will travel to Cheney, Wash., to battle No. 5 overall seed Eastern Washington, who were co-champions in the Big Sky Conference.

The game is set for 11 a.m. CT and will air on ESPN3.com and the ESPN GamePlan pay-per-view package. Tickets are $20 each and can be ordered by calling the JSU Athletic Ticket Office at 256-782-8499.
