KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Jacksonville State women's soccer team has earned a 2009-10 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Women's Team Academic Award, announced by the coaches organization on Friday.

The Gamecock squad was one of 436 women's teams awarded the academic achievement this season. A total of 630 teams were recognized, including 194 men's squads. To be eligible for the award, teams must have a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. Jax State turned in a 3.21 GPA. This year's honor marks the fifth time the JSU program has claimed the organization's team award.

"We are honored by the NSCAA recognizing us for the fifth time. I am very proud of our players accomplishments in the classroom,” said JSU head coach Julie Davis Carlson. “We are among many elite institutions with this honor and it is nice to be along side them based on the efforts our players are making in their academic career."

Jax State was one of five teams from the Ohio Valley Conference to receive the award. A total of nine teams from the state of Alabama were listed among the award winners – Alabama, UAB, Alabama State, Auburn, Auburn-Montgomery, South Alabama, Spring Hill College and Troy.
