Gamecock Rifle Tops Columbus State

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's rifle team topped Columbus State on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle range on Saturday.

Jax State accumulated an aggregate score of 4626 to edge 11th-ranked CSU by seven points (4619). The Gamecock score was bolstered by a 2304 mark in the smallbore, while CSU turned in a 2330 mark in air rifle.

JSU's Andrean Dardas posted a personal best 586 to claim the top spot in smallbore. Kayla Carstensen also carded a personal best in the dual match as the Alabaster, Ala.-sophomore finished second in the air rifle with a 584 score.

“Our smallbore is close to where we need it to be, however we had some problems in air rifle. Despite these problems, we were still able to defeat Columbus State, which was ranked #11, ahead of Jacksonville State in the pre-season poll,” said head coach Ron Frost. “However, we realize that this is an area - which we will have to work on a little harder and pay a little more attention to in the future.”

Top air rifle score was 588 by CSU Jonathan Hall.

JSU returns to action on Nov. 20, hosting the Gamecock Invitational.
