JSU Women Close Record-Breaking Fall In Third at Hatter Invite

FINAL RESULTS

DELAND, Fla. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team missed a team playoff by one shot on Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Invitational, finishing third in the final tournament of the fall season.

The Gamecocks' 289 in Tuesday's final round gave them a school-record 894 over the 54-hole tournament, two shots better than the previous 54-hole record that was set in their last tournament on Oct. 25-26 in Kiawah Island, S.C. JSU rounded out the fall by playing three 54-hole events and carded the three lowest 54-hole scores in school history, while one of their only other two tournaments saw them set the school's 36-hole record by 15 shots.

Junior Lucia Fernandez Valdes finished second on the individual leaderboard after a one-over 73 in Tuesday's final round gave her an even-par 216 for the 54-hole event. The native of Cordoba, Argentina, also shot a 73 in the first round before firing a two-under 70 in the second to tie herself for the second-lowest 54-hole score in JSU history. She was nine shots behind individual medalist Mitsuki Katahira's nine-under 207 for runner-up Daytona State that was capped by a final-round 67 on Tuesday.

For the Gamecocks, junior Astrid Parsson finished tied for fifth after a 225. The Malmo, Sweden, native shot 78 on Tuesday to go along with a 72 and 75 from Monday. Sophomore Ornella Arrizon (79-75-74-228) improved each round to finish tied for 11th, while sophomore Luz Armijo Fernandez (80-73-76-229) tied for 14th. Senior Laura Cutler (78-73-79-230) was one shot back in 16th.

Host Stetson won the even in a playoff with Daytona State, while Florida Atlantic and McNeese State finished behind JSU to round out the top five.
