FINAL RESULTS
DELAND, Fla. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team couldn't catch Florida Gulf Coast in Tuesday's final round, wrapping up the fall by finishing second in the Stetson/CFSC Invitational at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.
Sophomore
Andres Schonbaum fired the low round of the day for the Gamecocks with a one-under 71, while junior
Tom Robson was the team's highest finisher over the 54-hole event. Robson, a native of Portsmouth, England, wrapped up the two-day event with a 72 on Tuesday that put him in a tie for fourth with a 214 (69-73-72).
Schonbaum, a native of Cordoba, Argentina, finished the tournament in a tie for eighth with a three-round total f 217 (72-74-71). Freshman
Matthew Wallace (78-69-74-221) and junior
Alfonso Otoya (75-72-74-221) tied for 14th in the 45-man field, while senior
Gonzalo Berlin rounded out the tourney with a final-round 72.
The Gamecocks entered the day 10 shots behind Florida Gulf Coast and matched them in the final round. The Eagles' 289 on Tuesday gave them a 54-hole total of 857, a score only the Gamecocks (290-288-289-867) could get within 20 shots of. Host Stetson and USC Upstate finished tied for third with an 878, while Bethune-Cookman's 895 landed the Wildcats in fifth. The only other Ohio Valley Conference team in the nine-team field was defending champion Murray State, who finished seventh with a 904.
Daniel Mazziotta won medalist honors after securing his six-under 210 with a 72 on Tuesday.
