Gamecock Women Tied For Lead After Day One Of Hatter Invitational

SECOND ROUND RESULTS

DeLAND, Fla. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team fired a 291 in the second round of the Holiday Inn Express Hatter Classic to tie for the lead headed into Tuesday's final round at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.

The Gamecocks' second-round score was just two shots from the school record for lowest 18-hole score and put them in a tie with defending Junior College National Champion Daytona State headed into the final round of the nine-team field. The 54-hole event will wrap up on Tuesday morning.

Junior Lucia Fernandez Valdes is in second on the 48-player individual leaderboard after turning in a one-under 143 on the first day of the tournament. The Cordoba, Argentina, native was one over in the morning before carding a two-under 70 in the afternoon round. She trails leader Mitsuki Katahira by three shots headed into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Fernandez Valdes' second-round 70 tied for the seventh lowest round in school history, while her 143 ties the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in the school record books.

Junior Astrid Parsson is tied for fourth after her 147 on Monday. The Malmo, Sweden, native was even after the first round but turned in a three-over 75 in the afternoon. Senior Laura Cutler's second-round 73 allowed the Essex, England, native to bounce back from a first-round 78 to pull into a tie for ninth.

Sophomores Luz Armijo Fernandez (80-73-153) and Ornella Arrizon (79-75-154) rounded out the Gamecocks' lineup on Monday in 13th and 16th place, respectively.
