Eastern Kentucky Stuns No. 2 Jax State 49-37

RICHMOND, Ky. – T.J. Pryor threw for 168 yards and rushed for 77 more, while Orlandius Harris had 205 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 49-37 upset of No. 2 Jacksonville State at Roy Kidd Stadium on Saturday.

The loss snapped several streaks by the Gamecocks, including the longest active winning streak in the FCS, longest road winning streak and it also snapped the third longest winning streak in school history.

Jax State quarterback Marques Ivory had a record-setting game after throwing for a school record 444 yards, while also setting school records for passes completed (30) and attempted (49). He accounted for 63 offensive plays for 451 yards of total offense, which were both also school records. Jeffrey Cameron finished with 190 yards on 10 catches, both rank as the second most in school history.

Jax State took a 7-0 lead on its opening drive after Calving Middleton scored on a one-yard run with 11:22 left in the first quarter after the Gamecocks went 61 yards in four plays.

Eastern Kentucky tied the game at 7-7 after Pryor tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tyrone Goard with 8:55 left in the first, but the Gamecocks fought back to take the lead on a 27-yard field goal by James Esco with 2:08 remaining in the first.

The Colonels then took their first lead of the game after Pryor connected with Harris on a 44-yard scoring pass with 3:57 left in the second quarter. EKU extended the lead to 21-10 after Justin Williams threw a 76-yard touchdown pass to Harris with just :50 left in the second quarter.

Jax State answered and marched 76 yards in six plays as Ivory scored on a one-yard run with just :04 left to cut the lead to 21-17 at the half.

Eastern Kentucky extended the lead on its first drive of the second half after H.B. Banjoman scored on a 3-yard run with 11:04 left in the third quarter and then Robert Knowles returned a fumble 34 yards to give EKU a 35-17 lead with 10:47 remaining in the quarter.

The Gamecocks answered when Ivory completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Cameron with 7:25 left, but EKU's Jeremy Caldwell returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a Colonel touchdown and make the score 42-24.

Ivory tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Alan Bonner with 5:21 left in the third and a 5-yard touchdown to La'Ray Williams, while EKU's Pryor scored on a two-yard run as EKU claimed the win.

Jacksonville State returns to action next Saturday against Southeast Missouri State, who is undefeated in the OVC. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Burgess-Snow Field and tickets are available by calling the JSU Athletic Ticket Office at 256-782-8499.

POST-GAME NOTES

- Captains for the Gamecocks: senior LB Morrell Jones, senior OL Tyler Olgetree, senior OL Cur Porter, senior DE Jamison Wadley.
- The loss snaps JSU's 12-game winning streak which dated back to the Eastern Illinois game last season. The 12-game run was the longest in the FCS and second in all of Division I football...The streak also matches Eastern Kentucky's 12-game run in 1991…the loss also snaps JSU's nine-game road winning streak, which was also tops in the FCS.
- The last time JSU was 8-1 on the season was during the 2004 season.
- The 49 points given up by JSU is the most in a Ohio Valley Conference contest...EKU posted 38 points against the Gamecocks in 2009.
- Under Crowe, Jax State is 46-7 when scoring 30 or more points in a game...the last time the Gamecocks pasted 30-plus points and lost was against UT Martin in 2008.
- JSU allowed the second-highest yardage of the season as EKU mustered up 422 total yards in the win...Georgia State posted 450 against the Gamecocks.
- With its TD on the opening drive, JSU has scored on its first possession in its last four games.
- The Colonels scored the most points against JSU in the eighT-game series between the two schools....EKU bettered its 38-point effort in 2008...the 86 combined points also is a series high.
- EKU's first quarter TD was the first one the Jax State defense has allowed since the 5:39 mark of the fourth quarter of the UT Martin contest...that mark spans eight quarters (Tennessee State & Austin Peay games).
- Jax State trailed at halftime for just the third time season...the other two games were a 21-point deficit at Ole Miss and JSU trailed Chattanooga 10-0 after the first half.
- EKU's 34-yard fumble return for a TD by Robert Knowles was the second of the year against JSU.
-The last time the Gamecocks surrendered a kick off for a TD was last season at Eastern Illinois (87 yard return).
- JSU QB Marques Ivory set a trio of Jax State passing records in the setback...the junior from Warner Robins, Ga. threw for a single game record 444 yards on 30-of-49 passing - also new program marks at JSU...Ivory tossed for three TDs as well...the last time a JSU signal caller tossed for a trio of TD passes was Ryan Perrilloux against Murray State on Oct. 10, 2009.
- Junior RB Calvin Middleton has registered a TD in the last three games that he has participated in...he did not suit up against Austin Peay.
- Senior WR Jeffery Cameron registered a career-high 190 yards on also a career-best ten catches...his ten grabs is the most since Joey Hamilton hauled in 11 vs. Nicholls State on Sept. 25, 1999....his total yardage is the second-most in JSU laurels.
- Sophomore WR Alan Bonner posted his first TD since recording a pair in the season opener at Ole Miss.
