Jax State Football Remains No. 2 in Top 25 Polls

Jacksonville State remained No. 2 in both major Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 polls following an off week and will look to extend the nation's longest winning streak on Saturday.

The Gamecocks, 8-0 for the first time in the school's Division I history and first time since 1991, achieved the highest ranking in school history since being ranked No. 2 in the Division II preseason poll of 1992. Jacksonville State has never been ranked No. 1 in any NCAA football poll.

Jax State has won 12-straight games, dating back to the final four wins of the 2009 season, and has the longest active winning streak in the FCS and the second longest among all of Division I, behind Boise State's 21 games. It's also ties for the fifth longest winning streak in the OVC's 63-year history.

Jacksonville State is just one of three remaining undefeated FCS schools, joining No. 1 Appalachian State (8-0) and No. 11/13 Bethune-Cookman (8-0).

It's the highest ranking for an Ohio Valley Conference team since Tennessee State was ranked No. 1 in 1999 and is the highest for the Gamecocks since moving to Division I in 1995.

Jacksonville State has been ranked for 24 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls and that's the longest such stretch in the school's Division I history and ties for the longest streak in the school's all-time history. The Gamecocks were ranked in the Division II poll for 24 straight weeks in the early 1990s.

The Gamecocks return to action on Saturday at Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard on the Jacksonville State radio network at 5:30 p.m.
