JSU Volleyball Starts Homestand On Tuesday vs. Tech

LIVE STATS

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team starts a five-match homestand on Tuesday, when the Gamecocks host Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Admission is free and free pizza will be available for all in attendance.

After playing just five home matches through the first 24 matches of the season, the Gamecocks (12-12, 7-6 Ohio Valley Conference) return home to The Pete for their final five matches of the regular season. That stretch starts Tuesday against a Golden Eagles (6-18, 4-9 OVC) team that has lost four in a row since downing JSU in Cookeville on Oct. 15.

Tuesday will represent a clash between the class of the league for the past five years, with the Gamecocks or Golden Eagles claiming at least one of the league's two trophies in each of the past five seasons. JSU won the tournament title in 2005 before winning regular season crowns in 2006, 2007 and 2009. TTU claimed the 2008 league and tournament crowns, while the Gamecocks also claimed the tourney in 2006 and 2009.

The Gamecocks are trying to get back on track after dropping three in a row to fall into a fourth-place tie with Murray State. TTU sits in eighth, three games behind Jax State, with five to play. The top six teams will qualify for the league's tournament.

JSU enters the home stretch with a few players climbing in its career records book. Senior setter Brooke Schumacher has moved into second place on the all-time assists list with 4,224, just 111 behind Emily Withers' school record. Senior Caitlin Vorbeck continues to move up the school's all-time kills list with 1,264, which puts her in sixth. She needs 48 more kills to catch A.J. Sanders in fifth and is 71 behind Amanda Sandlin in fourth.

In just her third season at JSU, Junior Lauren Harkins needs six digs to become just the third player in school history to record 1,600 digs in a career. Third on the school's career digs list, Harkins' 1,594 career digs trails only Brittney Whitten (1,689) and Kisha West (1,745) on the all-time list.

The Gamecocks will also be at home this weekend for a pair of matches, beginning with a Friday evening matchup with UT Martin at 7 p.m. Murray State will then pay a visit on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start. All of JSU's home matches are free.
