CLINTON, Miss.—The Alabama State University men's and women's cross country teams both finished third at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships. The championship was held at the Choctaw Trails course.
Jephtah Kenei led the Hornets with a second place finish. He ran the 8k course in 24:24.43, averaging 5:06.7 per mile.
The Hornets finished the championship with 77 total points. Mississippi Valley State won the championship with 24 points and Grambling State was second with 59.
Kenei received 1
st Team All-SWAC honors and
Charles Flewellen was named 2
nd Team All-SWAC.
Lutrisha Altidor and
Courtney Gooch led a balanced women's team on the way to their third place finish. All six of the ASU runners finished among the top 24 runners in the 5k championship.
Altidor finished seventh in the race with a time of 19:31.46. Gooch finished ninth with a time of 19:38.24.
The women finished with 60 total points while Grambling State won the championship with 51 points. The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished second with 54 points.
Altodor and Gooch received 2nd Team All-SWAC honors.
