BAXTER, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's women's cross country team turned in the program's best finish in the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship as JSU placed fourth on Saturday.
The Gamecock men finished eighth in the men's championship.
Sophomore
Ericka Stam garnered All-OVC First Team status after placing fifth in the individual standings after completing the 5K course in 18 minutes, 49.12 seconds. Her finish is the highest ever by a Gamecock on the women's side. Last season,
Ashley Stovall placed tenth to pace Jax State to a fifth-place spot a season ago. Stovall finished 29th on Saturday with a time of 20:00.07.
Kailey Jensen was JSU's second finisher in 17th-place after clocking a season-best time of 19:36.56.
Latasha Sturkie and Tracy Kevyn rounded out the JSU scoring contingent with times of 20:19.04 (33rd) and 20:32.24 (39th) respectively.
In the men's 8K, sophomore
Matt Brick led the JSU contingent with a time of 26:50.75 to finish 22nd.
Nicholas Tirop followed Brick, crossing the finish line in 27:49.74. The Pell City, Ala.-native has been JSU's top-finisher in each meet this season.
Josh Hulsey registered a time of 28:55.42 (49th). Norman Steiger (29:32.26) and
Bethuel Kiplagat (29:57.20) rounded out the Jax State scoring.
Eastern Kentucky won its 25th OVC Women's Championship and fifth-straight. EKU had five of the top 10 individuals, including Katherine Pagano taking home the individual crown. The EKU men locked up its 19th OVC crown, led by Soufiane Bouchikhi's top time of 24:56.73.
Both JSU squads will compete in the NCAA South Regional in Birmingham on Nov. 13.
