Gamecocks Move Up to No. 2 in Football Polls

Jacksonville State moved to No. 2 in both major Football Championship Subdivision polls on Monday following the Gamecocks' 56-3 win over Austin Peay to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 12 games.

The Gamecocks, 8-0 for the first time in the school's Division I history and first time since 1991, achieved the highest ranking in school history since being ranked No. 2 in the Division II preseason poll of 1992. It marks the 11th time in school history the Gamecocks have been ranked No. 2 and Jax State has never been ranked No. 1 in any NCAA football poll.

Jax State has won 12-straight games, dating back to the final four wins of the 2009 season, and has the longest active winning streak in the FCS and the second longest among all of Division I, behind Boise State's 20 games. It's also ties for the fifth longest winning streak in the OVC's 61-year history.

Jacksonville State is the only FCS schools that has a perfect 8-0 record this season and there are only three undefeated FCS school remaining, including No. 1 Appalachian State (7-0) and Bethune-Cookman (7-0).

It's the highest ranking for an Ohio Valley Conference team since Tennessee State was ranked No. 1 in 1999 and is the highest for the Gamecocks since moving to Division I in 1995.

Jacksonville State has been ranked for 23 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls and that's the longest such stretch in the school's Division I history.

The Gamecocks are off this week and returns to action on Nov. 6 at Eastern Kentucky.
