COOKEVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team closed out the 2010 season with a 3-1 setback to Tennessee Tech on Friday afternoon on the TTU campus.
JSU finished the 2010 campaign with a 3-14-1 overall mark and 1-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Tech improved to 4-11-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league matches. The Golden Eagles will face Austin Peay on Sunday.
TTU took the lead in the opening half as Ashley Smith scored her first goal of the season after capitalizing on a cross from Andrea Meloff. Meloff got in the scoring column later in the contest as she sealed the win with a late goal. Ashley Smith gave TTU a 2-0 advantage prior to Jax State slicing into the Purple and Gold lead.
Sophomore
Ariel Jones was credited with JSU's goal in the second half. The goal was the second of the year for the Bowling Green, Ky.-forward. The Gamecocks finished with eight shots in the contest, led by senior defender
Debbie Matich's pair of scoring opportunities. Junior
Chelsea Pelletier and sophomore
Dani Miller added on goal attempts. Goalkeeper
Katelyn Geddings finished with five stops in the loss.
TTU finished with 16 shot attempts, including three apiece by Jen Hoffman and Smith.
Friday marked the final contest for three departing seniors for JSU. Matich,
Alyshia Madison and
Alex Rustad. Rustad posted a shot attempt in the season finale while Madison anchored the JSU defense.
