FINAL RESULTS

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team capped a record-breaking trip to the Links at Novadell on Tuesday with a nine-shot win in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.

One day after carding a school-record 29-under 259 in the second round, the Gamecocks turned in a final-round 280 to give them a 42-under 822 for the 54-hole event. The three-round total bested the previous 54-hole low of 832 and the 54-hole record to par of minus-27, both set in the 2003-04 season.

They finished nine shots better than second-place Bowling Green and 18 ahead of Oakland in third place. Host Austin Peay, UT Martin and Troy tied for fourth in the 17-team field that featured all nine Ohio Valley Conference men's teams. Bowling Green turned in the low round of the day with a 274 but the Gamecocks wouldn't let them draw any closer than nine shots.

“The course was playing tougher today than yesterday, but we knew we had to play well and we did” JSU assistant coach Brad Fleetwood said. “With the way the course was playing over the past few days, we knew it wouldn't take much for someone to put together a run today. Our guys did a good job of coming out focused and finishing strong.”

The Gamecocks had three players in the top five of the 93-player field, led by freshman Matthew Wallace and senior Gonzalo Berlin. The Gamecock duo each shot a 12-under 204 for the tournament before losing to Bowling Green's Charlie Olson in a four-player playoff that also featured Eastern Kentucky's Billy Peel.

Wallace, who fired a course record 62 on the par-72, 6,841-yard layout in the second round, shot a one-under 71 on Tuesday to finish in the first-place tie. The London, England, native broke school records for lowest round and lowest round to par on Monday. He and Berlin came one shot shy of the 54-hole school record of minus-13, set by Danny Willett in 2005-06.

Berlin, of Brasilia, Brazil, followed his second-round 64 with a 69 on Tuesday to move into the tie for the lead. Junior Tom Robson, of Portsmouth, England, turned in three rounds in the 60s to finish fifth. He shot 68 and 69 on Monday before wrapping up the tourney with a final-round 68 to get to 11 under, one shot off of the lead pack.

Junior Alfonso Otoya finished tied for 22nd with a four-under 212. The Buenos Aires, Argentina, native carded a one-over 73 on Tuesday after moving into contention with a six-under 66 in Monday's second round. Rounding out the Gamecocks' lineup tied for 28th was sophomore Andres Schonbaum, whose 72 on Tuesday gave him a three-under 213 for the tourney. The Cordoba, Argentina, native shot 74-67 on Monday.

The Gamecocks will be off until Nov. 8-9, when they play in the Stetson Men's Invitational at the Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla.
