Jax State Soccer Hosts EKU, Morehead State On Final Home Weekend

JACKSONVILLE – After playing the last three matches on the road, the Jacksonville State soccer team returns to the JSU Soccer Field this weekend to close out the home portion of the schedule against Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Morehead State on Sunday.

Friday's EKU tilt is set for 6 p.m., while Sunday's duel with Ohio Valley Conference leader Morehead State will get underway at 1 p.m. Admission is free for both matches.

This weekend also marks the final home appearance for three Gamecock seniors. JSU will honor defender Alyshia Madison, from Cheney, Wash., forward Alex Rustad, from Keller, Texas and defender Debbie Matich, from Rolling Meadows, Ill. following the match with the Eagles of MSU on Sunday.

Jax State, 3-11-1 on the season and 1-4 in OVC play, will look to snap a four-match losing streak after opening conference play with a win over Southeast Missouri on the opening night of league games. After falling to Eastern Illinois in its last home appearance, the Gamecocks have dropped road matches to Murray State, UT Martin and Austin Peay. In its last outing last Friday at APSU, JSU fell in the waning seconds of the match as the Lady Govs posted the game-winning goal with just 45 seconds left in regulation.

The Colonels of EKU enter the weekend at 6-6-2 overall and in the mix for the regular season crown with a logjam of teams at 3-2 in the OVC. The Maroon and White dropped both its matches last weekend on the road at SEMO and EIU.

Morehead State will host Austin Peay on Friday evening before trekking to Jacksonville for Sunday's contest. With two weekends left in the regular season, MSU currently stands atop the league standings at 4-0-1. The lone draw for MSU came against EIU last Friday.

Junior Chelsea Pelletier continues to lead JSU in goals this season with seven. The Ft. Worth, Texas-product ranks third in the league in goals scored. Defensively, the senior tandem of Madison and Matich has bolstered the Gamecock defense this season. Both have contributed on offense as well. Madison has dished out a pair of assists and seven shot attempts, while Matich has registered two shots thus far on the season. Rustad scored a goal against Southern University and tallied two assists versus SEMO.

Following the final home weekend of the season, JSU will close out the regular season on Oct. 22, visiting Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.
