ASU Runners Continue Strong Season

CLINTON, Miss.—The Alabama State University cross country teams continued their strong seasons as both had third-place finishes at the M.C. Watson Invitational hosted by Mississippi College.

The men were led by Jepthah Kenei's second-place finish with a 25:27.92 time on the 8k run. Teammate Charles Flewellen was fifth (26:40.39) and Chris Duncan also had a top-10 finish as he finished ninth (27:20.44).

Cody Pace ran the course in 29:38.26 to finish 25th while Albert Florvil finished 28th with a time of 30:37.15 and Jerrell Mumford finished 33rd with a 31:33.05 time.

The men finished with 69 total points and trailed SWAC members Mississippi Valley State (54 points) and Grambling (60 points). The Hornets finished ahead of other SWAC members Jackson State, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern University.

Kesia Derilus finished fourth overall in the women's 6k race to lead ASU to its third-place finish. She ran the course in 23:25.65. Breana Kelly finished 14th (24:47.72) and Raheema Hodges finished 17th (25:09.76), Courtney Gooch was 18th (25:15.07), as those three had top-20 finishes as well.

Lutrisha Altidor was 23rd (25:23.10), Soyong Smith finished 24th (25:27.93) and Simone Buford finished 28th (25:54.93).

ASU had 76 total points while the overall winner Tulane University finished with 44 points and second-place Southern Mississippi had 46 points.

ASU finished ahead of SWAC members Mississippi Valley State, Grambling, Southern, Jackson State and Alcorn State.

ASU's next meet will be at the Oakville Cherokee Trail run on Oct. 23rd. The meet will be held in Decatur, Miss.
