Late APSU Goal Downs Jax State, 1-0

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped its Ohio Valley Conference match with Austin Peay, 1-0, as The Lady Govs scored the match-clinching goal with just 54 seconds left in the game.

APSU's Tatiana Ariza posted the goal in the waning moments of the contest as she scored off a ball from Joceline Quiceno. The tandem of Ariza and Quiceno combined for 12 of APSU's 21 shots in the affair.

The loss drops Jax State to 3-11-1 on the season and 1-4 in OVC play. APSU improved to 10-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 against league competition.

For the fourth-straight match, the Gamecock offense was held in check as they finished the match with just a pair of shots. Both of JSU's shots were scoring chances as senior Alex Rustad attempted a shot in the first 45 minutes, but was saved by APSU goalkeeper Carly Newman. Newman staved off a JSU scoring opportunity in the second half by Kaitlin Manns. JSU keeper Ali Koenig tallied eight stops in the setback

JSU returns home next weekend as it welcomes OVC leaders Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. The two matches will be the last home weekend for the Gamecocks. Jax State will recognize its three seniors – Debbie Matich, Alex Rustad and Alyshia Madison prior to the Sunday, Oct. 17 match.
