Gamecocks Finish Third In La Tech Squire Creek Classic

FINAL RESULTS

CHOUDRANT, La. – Junior Tom Robson finished in a tie for sixth place and the Jacksonville State men's golf team rounded up the Louisiana Tech Squire Creek Classic in third place on Tuesday.

Robson, a native of Portsmouth, England, turned in a two-over 74 in Tuesday's final round on the 7,105-yard Squire Creek Country Club, placing him in a five-way tie for sixth in the 69-player field. He ended the 54-hole tournament with a 220, 12 shots behind medalist Horacio Leon of Southeastern Louisiana.

The Gamecocks (287-297-310-894) entered the day in a tie for second with host Louisiana Tech, but the Bulldogs turned in a 290 to jump SELA for the title in the 12-team field. Southern Miss finished seven shots behind JSU in fourth, while Missouri-Kansas City rounded out the top five.

Junior Gonzalo Berlin shot 78 in Tuesday's final round to finish in a three-way tie for 12th. The Brasilia, Brazil, native finished the tournament with a 223 (71-74-78). Berlin and Robson each played the par 5s at five under over the three rounds.

Sophomore Andres Schonbaum carded a 76 on Tuesday to put him in a tie for 16th. The Cordoba, Argentina, native finished nine over on the tournament after shooting a 79 and 70 on Monday.

Freshman Matthew Wallace (73-77-82) made 12 birdies over the 54 holes, one shy of the tournament high, but finished in 37th at 16 over. Junior Alfonso Otoya (73-80-82) rounded out the Gamecocks' field in the event in a tie for 46th.

JSU will return to the links on Oct. 18-19, when they compete in the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn. The JSU women will also play in the event.
