Gamecocks Head Into Final Round at Squire Creek In Second

ROUND TWO RESULTS

CHOUDRANT, La. – Juniors Gonzalo Berlin and Tom Robson are each in the top 10 after the first 36 holes of the Squire Creek Classic, putting the Jacksonville State men's golf team in second place headed into Tuesday's final round.

The Gamecocks carded tournament-low 287 in the first round on Monday morning before a 297 in the afternoon round left them three shots behind Southeastern Louisiana on the par-72, 7,105-yard layout at the Squire Creek Country Club. They will play the final 18 holes of the 54-hole, 12-team event on Tuesday morning.

Berlin, a native of Brasilia, Brasil, opened the day with a one-under 71 and closed with a two-over 71 to put him in a tie for sixth at one over. He leads Robson, a Portsmouth, England, native, by one shot.

In a tie for eighth in the 69-player field, Robson's 146 was started by a two-under 70 in the opening round that was highlighted by an ace on the fifth hole. He finished the day with a four-over 76 in the afternoon, putting him seven shots behind leader Horacio Leon (-5) of Southeastern Louisiana.

Leon and the Lions are also in the team lead after an afternoon 289 gave them a five-over 581 on the day. The Gamecocks are tied with host Louisiana Tech in second, while Southern Miss sits in fourth, 12 shots out of the tie. Missouri-Kansas City rounds out the top five at 21 over.

Sophomore Andres Schonbaum struggled out of the gates with a 79 but answered in the afternoon with a two-under 70. His 36-hole total of 149 puts the Cordoba, Argentina, native in a tie for 20th. Freshman Matthew Wallace (73-77-150) is in a tie for 22nd, while junior Alfonso Otoya (73-80-153) rounds out the JSU roster in a tie for 38th.
