JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's and women's tennis teams will open the fall schedule this weekend, competing in the 27th annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic Tennis Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Gamecocks will begin play on Friday and continue through the weekend as competition will wrap up on Sunday at the UTC Tennis Center.

JSU Head Coach Steve Bailey returns ten players off last year's squad that finished 5-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Axel Sundberg returns for his sophomore season after being named to the OVC First Team. Junior Brian Kenyon earned OVC Second Team status as a sophomore.

Bailey brings back six players on the women's side, including First Team All-OVC honorees Martina Dessbesell amd Marani Viviane. JSU claimed the program's first ever OVC regular season crown after completing a perfect 9-0 record in the OVC. Jax State was upended by Eastern Kentucky in the OVC Tournament semifinals.

JSU will be joined by Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lee University, Memphis, North Alabama, Samford, Tennessee Tech and UNC Greensboro on the men's at the UTC-hosted event. The women's field includes UTC, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lee University, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, UAB and Wofford.

This weekend's competition will be the first of three fall tournaments for JSU.
