JSU Softball Set For Fall Schedule to Begin Friday

TERA ROSS MEMORIAL INFORMATION

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team is gearing up for its 2010 Fall Schedule, which will begin on Friday. The Gamecocks will host Gadsden State Community College at 4 p.m. at University Field to get the fall underway.

The game with Gadsden State will be the first of two home games for the Gamecocks this fall. They will host Georgia Perimeter on Oct. 8, one day before hosting the fourth annual Tera Ross Memorial Tournament at the Oxford Softball Complex.

For the two games at University Field, admission is free and fans are encouraged to arrive early for seating in the grandstands. Repairs on the grandstand have limited seating behid the plate for the fall games.

The Gamecocks are coming off of their third-straight appearance in the NCAA Softball Regionals after winning the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Martin, Tenn. JSU advanced to the Atlanta Regional before being eliminated by Auburn. The Gamecocks put together a 30-19 record that included a 13-6 mark in OVC play before sweeping through the conference tourney.

The Gamecocks will play three games in the one-day Tera Ross Memorial on Oct. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. against Wallace State Community College. They will then face Calhoun Community College at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the day against Middle Georgia at 3 p.m. JSU's morning games will be played on field one, while the Gamecocks' 3 p.m. game will be played on field two. Admission to the tournament is $5 for the entire day.

The tournament is named in the memory of former Jacksonville State pitcher Tera Ross, a three-time letterwinner that was killed in an automobile accident just before her senior season.

As a junior in 2003, Ross led the team with a 1.17 earned run average, still the third-lowest in school history. She ranks in the top five in Jacksonville State's career record books in four categories: strikeouts, innings, wins and games started.
