FINAL STATS

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team rallied to win the final two sets and hand Austin Peay a 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13) loss at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks (8-7, 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference) dug 96 balls on the back row, led by 30 from junior Lauren Harkins and a career-best 21 from senior Caitlin Vorbeck. A native of Raytown, Mo., Vorbeck also blocked seven attacks in the match to go with her second double-double in a row. She runs her career kills total to 1,149, tying Kim Carney for eighth place on the school's career kills list.

With her second 30-dig match of the season, Harkins became just the third player in school history to record 1,400 digs in a career. The Louisville, Ky., native pushed her career digs total to 1,409 while leading a JSU defense that held the Lady Govs (12-3, 3-1 OVC) to a .156 attack percentage. The win extended the Gamecocks' home win streak to 15 matches and was their 14th in a row in five-set matches.

Sophomore Jen Meyer hit .371 to lead four Gamecocks with double-digit kills with 16.
Senior Kara Slater knocked down 11 kills on a .409 attack percentage, while sophomore Alyx Schulte added 12 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Freshman Kelly Cole picked up a career-high 15 digs.

The Gamecocks used their defense to overcome 14 service errors. They hit .215, as senior Brooke Schumacher and freshman Abbey Heredia each dished 28 assists.

The Lady Govs, who entered the match having won 11 of their last 12, got 15 kills each from Nikki Doyle and Jessica Mollman. Doyle had a double-double with 11 digs, making her one of five APSU players with 10 or more digs. Paige Economos led the team with 24.

The Gamecocks will now go back on the road, where they will spend the next three weekends. They begin the stretch on Friday with a 7 p.m. matchup at Murray State.
