BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State junior Lucia Fernandez Valdes has earned Ohio Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week honors for her win at the Chris Banister Golf Classic, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Fernandez Valdes, a native of Cordoba, Argentina, opened the fall season by running away with the individual title at the Gamecocks' annual Chris Banister Golf Classic at Silver Lakes. She finished the 54-hole tournament at one-over, nine shots better than second place.

She became the first Gamecock to win the event since 2005, while also guiding JSU to the team title, its first since 2005. Fernandez Valdes turned in even-par rounds in each of the final two rounds of the event, two of just four by the entire field at the event.

Fernandez Valdes and the Gamecocks will be in action on Saturday, when they begin the 36-hole Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Golf Resort and Spa in Waynesville, N.C.
