JSU's Madison Named OVC Defender of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After earning defensive most valuable player honors this past weekend in the JSU/Adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic, Jacksonville State senior defender Alyshia Madison claimed Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

With Madison's award, JSU has claimed its third-straight weekly conference honor. The Cheney, Wash.-native joins Ali Koenig (GK) and Emily Bielaga (D) as OVC Player of the Week recipients this season.

Madison anchored the Gamecock defense this past weekend against Southeastern Louisiana and Southern (La.) University. She logged 171 minutes combined on the weekend and dished out two assists in JSU's blanking of SU on Sunday. The pair of assists matched her career-high for a contest.

"Alyshia (Madison) has had a great start in our defensive line. She has made a major impact in our attack this past weekend,” said head coach Julie Davis Carlson. “She continues to develop confidence and lead by example as a defender to be reckoned with. It is always a privilege to have our players nominated for this award. And again it shows the strength of our defense with the 'behind the scenes' players making an impact in our team's success. We look to Alyshia to continue to make progress in the team's success with her contributions as we work toward our team's goals,” added Carlson.

Jax State returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 17, hosting in-state rival Troy at 6 p.m.
