FINAL STATS
DENVER – The Jacksonville State volleyball team ended its trip to the Denver Pioneer Classic with an impressive win on Sunday, when the Gamecocks cruised to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) sweep of Gonzaga.
Junior
Lauren Harkins became the fourth player in school history to surpass the 1,300 digs mark in a career in the match, thanks to a match-high 14. The Louisville, Ky., native ran her career total to 1,310 digs and led a Gamecocks (5-6) defense that limited the Bulldogs (2-9) to an .069 attack percentage in the match.
Sophomore
Alyx Schulte led JSU on the offensive side of the net with 12 kills and fell one dig shy of a double-double. The Cold Spring, Ky., native was one of three JSU players in double figures in the kills column, with seniors
Caitlin Vorbeck and
Kara Slater each recording 10.
Vorbeck, a native of Raytown, Mo., also picked up six digs to wrap up a weekend that saw her average 3.14 kills, 2.14 digs and 0.86 blocks per set to earn all-tournament honors. Sophomore
Jen Meyer, the Gamecocks' other all-tourney selection, had eight kills on a .400 attack percentage in Sunday's win. The Maineville, Ohio, native averaged 2.29 kills in the tourney for JSU.
Senior setter
Brooke Schumacher paved the way for a Gamecock offense that hit .252 on the match with 37 of the team's 42 assists.
Gonzaga struggled to get anything going against Jax State with Kaprina Goodwin's seven kills leading the team.
The win snaps a four-match skid for the Gamecocks and wraps up their non-conference schedule. They will open their defense of their fourth OVC title in five years on Friday, when they face Morehead State at 6 p.m. CT in Morehead, Ky.
