JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team closed out the JSU/Adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic with a 7-0 thumping of Southern University on Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Field.

The win improved JSU's season mark to 2-5-1 overall and finished the weekend 1-1 after a Friday night setback to Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions of SELU turned in a pair of wins on the weekend as they erased a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the final 45 minutes against Ohio Valley Conference member Austin Peay.

Six different Gamecocks scored goals in the blanking, led by junior Chelsea Pelletier's two goals in the second half. The Fort Worth, Texas native tallied her pair of goals within minutes of each other to extend the JSU lead to 5-0. JSU took advantage of two penalty kicks as Kaitlin Manns put JSU on the board three minutes deep into the contest. Jax State's final goal came by way of the penalty kick off the foot of Austen Stoelting. Stoelting was also credited with an assist on Alex Rustad's goal in the 55th minute. Eli Arthur registered JSU's second goal of the contest, while Nathalee Lariviere one-on-goal sent the Gamecocks to the halftime break with a 3-0 lead. Alyshia Madison dished out the assist on Arthur's and Lariviere's goal.

As a team, JSU finished with a season-best 35 shots, 16 of those on goal. JSU limited SU to just one shot the entire 90 minutes. Lariviere led the Gamecocks with five shot attempts. Katelyn Geddings recorded the shutout in her second start of the season.

The Gamecocks return to action on Friday, Sept. 17, hosting in-state rival Troy. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
