JSU Cross Country Records High Marks At GSU Invitational

Atlanta – The Jacksonville State women's cross country team turned in its second-straight runner-up finish in as many meets, ironically claiming silver to the same team – Georgia State in the GSU Invitational on Friday.

Last week at the JSU/Strut's Season Opener, GSU and Jax State finished one-two in the women's two-mile run. The Gamecock men claimed third-place among the Division I teams competing in the event.

On the women's side, JSU collected 57 points and was led by current Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week Ericka Stam. Stam finished runner-up with a time of 20 minutes, 30.01 seconds in the 5K event. JSU's Kevyn just edged reaching the top 10 with a time of 21:36.35 (11th). Iona Citireag (23:19.27) and Lauren Collins (38:56.81) rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks.

In the men's 8K, Matt Brick paced the JSU contingent with a top 10 finish after posting a mark of 28:35.08 to claim bronze. Nicholas Tirop turned in a top 10 finish with a time of 30:09.04. George Kiplagat claimed the tenth spot with a time of 30:28.11. Norman Steigler (33:34.85) and Josh Hulsey (33:47.72) finished 41st and 42nd in the field.

JSU will turn its attention to the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic on Sept. 25.
