FINAL RESULTS

DENVER – The Jacksonville State volleyball team couldn't get going offensively on Friday, when the Gamecocks dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) decision to Texas A&M on the first day of the Denver Pioneer Classic.

The Gamecocks (4-4) hit just .022 in the loss to the Aggies (4-4), who used a 15-dig performance from Tori Mellinger to stall the JSU offense.

Sophomore Jen Meyer hit .286 en route to six kills, which tied junior Liza Senenkova for the team lead. Seniors Caitlin Vorbeck and Kara Slater each added five kills for the Gamecock offense, while Vorbeck's nine digs led the JSU defense.

Senior Brooke Schumacher dished 17 of the team's 22 assists, while Allie Sawatzky's 30 assists set up the Aggies offense. Kelsey Black led all players with nine kills, while Chelsea Ringel and Alisia Kastmo each added eight for TAMU.

The Gamecocks play a pair of matches on Saturday, starting with a 3 p.m. meeting with Notre Dame. They will wrap up the day against host Denver at 7 p.m.
