JSU Cross Country To Compete In The GSU Invitational

JACKSONVILLE – After opening the season last weekend with the JSU/Strut's Season Opener, the Jacksonville State cross country team will travel to Atlanta, Ga. on Friday to take part in the Georgia State Invitational.

The women's 5K race is set to begin at 2 p.m. CST, while the men's 8K race is slated for 3:40 p.m. CST at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park.

JSU's women's squad is coming off a third-place finish in the season debut, while the men did not score in the meet.

Gamecock sophomore Ericka Stam claimed silver last weekend after posting a time of 14 minutes, 19 seconds in the two-mile event. The Keller, Texas-native was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference earlier this week as the Women's Runner of the Week. Newcomer Kevyn Tracy clocked a time of 15:25 and placed 15th. Ashley Stovall registered a mark of 15:35 to place 18th overall. Latasha Sturkie and Ioana Citireag rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks.

On the men's side, SU had a pair of top 10 finishes from Matt Brick and Nicholas Tirop. Brick crossed the line in 15:42 (6th), while Tirop posted a time of 15:42 (8th).

Following Friday's activity, JSU will turn its attention to the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic on Sept. 25.
