JSU's Ali Koenig Tabbed OVC Co-Goalkeeper Of The Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State sophomore goalkeeper Ali Koenig was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Co-Goalkeeper of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Koenig shares this week's award with Eastern Illinois keeper Kaylin Lorbert. This marks the third time in her career to earn the weekly honor. Koenig was recognized by the OVC twice as a freshman.

Koenig, a native of Colleyville, Texas, turned in 18 saves last weekend in the Gamecocks' two matches in the Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. She allowed just four goals in 135 minutes in the net. Koenig earned her first start of the season on Sunday against North Texas. In that match, she came within one save of matching her career high in saves with 10 stops. She played the final 45 minutes in JSU's duel with New Mexico State.

I am very proud of what she has been honored with this week," said JSU head coach Julie Davis Carlson. "She put on an incredible performance against two very good teams. I think this is a great start to her season and it is nice to see her carry over consistency from year to year. Ali improves each game and each session she is in. I think we will find great things from her this season."

On the season, Koenig has recorded 30 saves and maintains a .811 save percentage after four matches.

JSU returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 3 traveling to Itta Bena, Miss. to face Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. The Red and White visit Jackson State on Sunday, Sept. 5.
