JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team will open its 2010 home schedule on Tuesday, when the Gamecocks host Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Admission is free for all fans.
JSU is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at the Belmont Invitational that featured a few high points. Senior
Caitlin Vorbeck's 25 kills over the weekend made her just the 15th player in school history to record 1,000 kills in a career. The Raytown, Mo., native and Preseason All-OVC selection now has 1,004 kills in her JSU career.
Fellow senior
Kara Slater also had a big weekend for the Gamecocks on the front row. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native earned All-Tournament honors after averaging 2.7 kills and 1.1 blocks per set. Slater opened the season with 16 kills and nine blocks, both career highs in a win over tournament champion Memphis, the Tigers' lone loss of the tourney.
Kennesaw State, a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, went 2-1 in Southern Miss' tournament over the weekend, sweeping Nicholls State and South Alabama before being swept by Southern Miss.
The meeting will be the first meeting between the two schools and will be JSU's last home match until Sept. 24.
