North Texas Downs JSU, 2-0

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A pair of second half goals by North Texas handed Jacksonville State a 2-0 loss in the final match of the New Mexico State-hosted Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The shutout was the fourth-straight for the Gamecocks as they fell to 0-4 on the season. UNT remained perfect on the season at 4-0. JSU will look for its first win of the season next weekend as it travels to the state of Mississippi to face Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State.

After a scoreless 45 minutes, the Mean Green of UNT broke the deadlock with an Ellen Scarfone goal in the 68th minute. Scarfone connected from the left center of the box for the first goal. Carly McDowell was credited with the assist. UNT added it second goal of the contest as Alicia Reyes scored on a rebound off of JSU keeper Ali Koenig.

UNT minimized JSU's scoring opportunities throughout the affair as the Red and White managed just three shots in the match. Kaitlin Manns and Austen Stoelting each registered shots on goal for the Gamecocks. UNT had ample scoring chances in the contest with 19 total shots, 12 coming in the final 45 minutes. JSU's Koenig posted ten saves, eight in the second half.

JSU travels to Itta Bena, Miss. on Friday, Sept. 3 to face MVSU. Match time is set for 4 p.m. Jax State blanked the Devilettes 4-0 last season in Jacksonville.
