Gamecocks Hold Dress Rehearsal on Saturday

JACKSONVILLE – On Saturday, Jacksonville State  held a final dress rehearsal scrimmage for their season opener at Ole Miss next weekend and head coach Jack Crowe was pleased with the outcome.

“Today was a orchestrated scrimmage, scripted by down and distance and field position that really dictate the style of play,” Crowe said following the afternoon workout. “It gives awareness to the players of what the situations of the game require in terms of their anticipation and execution.”

The scrimmage started at 2:30 in the afternoon, which is the kickoff time against Ole Miss next Saturday.

Crowe said the scrimmage involved every facet of the game to give the players an idea of how the game will flow.

“Along with the offensive and defensive downs, we also simulated the kicking game. We worked on getting on and off, in and out, up and down aspects of the whole game,” Crowe said. "We spent time on the tempo of getting from offense to kicking, to defense to kicking, with a focus of building some anticipation of the flow of the game.”

Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the two schools on the football field. Ole Miss posted a 9-4 record last season, while the Gamecocks are coming off back-to-back 8-3 seasons.
