Gamecocks Head West For Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic

Live Stats

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will head West in search of its first win of 2010 in soccer as the Gamecocks will take part in the Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. this weekend.

JSU will square off with tournament host New Mexico State at 8 p.m. CST on Friday, Aug. 27. The tournament concludes on Sunday with a match with North Texas at Noon CST. Both of JSU's games will be available via live stats at www.jsugamecocksports.com.

The Gamecocks enter the weekend after dropping their first two contests of the season at home last weekend. Gardner-Webb claimed a 2-0 win over Jax State before the Red and White dropped a hard-fought 3-2 double overtime match to Georgia State. The Aggies of NMSU opened the season with a 1-1 draw with Montana in extra time. The Mean Green of UNT got off to a great start with a pair of wins in the opening weekend.

This weekend's trip to the Land of Enchantment marks the first time JSU has visited the state since a 1996 meeting with the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The match up with NMSU will be the first on the pitch between the two schools, while JSU and UNT did battle in 1997. The Aggie soccer program is just in its second year of existence. NMSU, a member of the Western Athletic Conference, will be JSU's first-ever foe from that league and will be the first of two on the 2010 schedule. The Gamecocks will face Louisiana Tech later in the season.

Juniors Chelsea Pelletier and Lindsay Boehmler turned in goals in JSU's last outing. Pelletier, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, scored the initial goal of the season in the opening half of the GSU tilt. Boehmler's carded the equalizing goal in the second half. Sophomore keeper Ali Koenig ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference in saves with 12 through two matches.

Following this weekend, JSU remains on the road the next weekend as it crosses the state line into the state of Mississippi for matches against Mississippi Valley State (Sept. 3) and Jackson State (Sept. 5). The Gamecocks return home on Sept. 10 and 12, hosting the 2nd Annual Adidas/JSU Gamecock Classic.
