Gamecocks Ranked No. 17 in FCS Coaches Preseason Football Poll

SPARTANBURG, SC – Jacksonville State is ranked No. 17 in the FCS Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday.

The Gamecocks, which finished the season with the best record in the Ohio Valley Conference with an 8-3 record and a 6-1 conference mark, won the final four games of the 2009 season.

Jax State also has been ranked for 15 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls, which is the longest such stretch in the school's Division I history. JSU is also ranked No. 17 in The Sports Network preseason poll, which was released last week.

Jacksonville State was one of two Ohio Valley Conference teams ranked in the poll, joining Eastern Illinois, who was ranked No. 16, while Eastern Kentucky received votes in the poll.

Villanova, who won the Football Championship Subdivision title for the first time last December, is ranked first after gaining 22 of the 28 first-place votes and 667 points.

FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.

Jacksonville State head coach Jack Crowe also released the Gamecocks' 60-man roster and depth chart on Monday, with 26 players listed as freshman, sophomores or newcomers, that will work towards the season opener at Ole Miss on Sept. 4.
